Sky Watch Alliance is a non-partisan grass-roots organization, formed by ordinary citizens of Morris County, New Jersey. We organized in December 2024, following recurring incidents of unusual aircraft activity over our homes and neighborhoods (as well as nearby sensitive infrastructure and military installations). Given the frequency and intensity of these aerial events – as well as the low-flying nature of some flyovers – we are deeply concerned about the potential risks posed to the public.

The lack of information, as well as unclear and shifting positions taken by the federal authorities in addressing this problem, have contributed to a sense of public unease and discord that may intensify unless and until the U.S. government does the following:

(i) provides sufficiently clear information to substantively address the public’s legitimate concerns about their safety and of the United States’ control over its airspace; and

(ii) takes the appropriate measures to identify these aircraft, determine their origin and intent, and end any unauthorized or potentially harmful incursions into the airspace above us and our families. While these overhead events continue to occur, the people of Morris County (and New Jersey as a whole) remain at potential risk. Likewise, individuals in any other similar-affected areas of the United States may share a similar risk, particularly if this phenomena expands. Such risks may include: (a) direct harm from unauthorized drones or other aircraft;

(b) injury resulting from attempts by persons on the ground to engage with them; or (c) harmful actions that may result from the frenzy of speculation and theorizing that may increase as time goes on without firm answers being provided by federal authorities.

Additionally, it will be crucial for federal authorities to engage in a thorough investigation and arrive at bona fide conclusions. Equally important is the need for our government to be transparent about its investigative efforts and to communicate its conclusions to its citizens. If left unresolved, many may harbor real and lingering concerns about the safety of themselves, their loved ones, and their property. Indeed, if the unusual airspace activity continues, the risks will increase daily. And even if the aerial activities ended now, it is still incumbent upon our leaders to find and communicate salutary answers. In the absence of a full explanation and understanding of these events, our nation may eventually find itself unprepared for a recurrence. And if hostile actors are responsible, such a recurrence may involve the infliction of real, physical harm. We therefore cannot afford a lack of vigilance – even if this issue drops out of the daily headlines. In sum, what is needed is simple: answers and leadership. The federal government must get to the bottom of the mystery and take action to protect its people and the airspace above them. Sky Watch Alliance is dedicated to pressing our officials to provide answers and take appropriate protective measures. We seek to serve as a resource for officials and citizens who want to help advance these aims. To that end, we will be taking action by meeting with elected officials, providing them with helpful resources, and raising awareness of these issues on an ongoing and long-term basis.
